Cleveland Hopkins / Caravelle Poster
Cleveland Hopkins / Caravelle Poster
Poster size is 14" wide by 20" tall, including a one-inch white border, and is printed on heavyweight, acid-free poster stock.
Celebrating the United Air Lines Caravelles and the Mid-Century Modern terminal at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, this new illustrated print by artist Chris Bidlack highlights several of the memories many fans of the Jet Age retain today. In addition to the Sud Aviation Caravelles in the foreground and on climb-out, one can also spot a BAC-111 in the distant sky, an American Boeing 720 in the background, and a SOHIO fuel truck rumbling by... all memories of visitors to Hopkins and other airports in the midwest during the height of the Jet Age.
United ordered 20 Caravelles, and began flying the type in June, 1960. They were a common sight at CLE and many other airports served by UAL into the early 1970s.
The illustration brings back to life United's Caravelle era, and accurately re-creates the original appearance of CLE's 1956 terminal and tower cab, and the 1954 West Concourse. Both were designed by Outcalt, Guenther & Associates in Cleveland. (And of course atop the West Concourse was one of the great open-air observation decks of the Jet Age.)
The print will arrive carefully packaged and ready for you to unroll and frame. (Framing instructions included.) Click on the image to see the full poster in detail. (And of course, the “JetAgeArt.com” watermark does not appear on the actual poster.)
