Phoenix Sky Harbor
Phoenix Sky Harbor
Poster size is 14" wide by 20" tall, including a one-inch white border, and is printed on heavyweight, acid-free poster stock.
The iconic and sparkling old control tower at PHX Sky Harbor, is highlighted in this detailed and colorful Jet Age Art print. The tower was designed by Phoenix architect Royal W. Lescher (1882–1957), who also designed the then-new terminal building. The tower began ATC operations on June 27, 1951, while the joining terminal was dedicated three months later, on September 13, 1952.
This poster, designed by artist Chris Bidlack and set in the 1960s, features aircraft of some of the airlines serving Sky Harbor in the Jet Age: In the foreground, a Bonanza DC-9 taxis out for takeoff, while overhead a Western Boeing 720B (N93141), ascends into the Arizona sky. In the distance, a Frontier 727 and TWA 707 can be seen. And a Jet Age TWA airstair sits on the ramp at the far left, beside one of the great airport viewing areas of all time, the semi-circular outdoor gate area in front of the terminal, just steps away from the airplanes of the day. With this poster, you can relive your past PHX memories, or send as a gift to a friend who fondly remembers the excitement of the Jet Age at Sky Harbor Airport.
The print will arrive carefully packaged and ready for you to unroll and frame. (Framing instructions included.) Click on the image to see the full poster in detail. (And of course, the "JetAgeArt.com" watermark does not appear on the actual poster.)
