SFO Airport Poster
SFO Airport Poster
Poster size is 14" wide by 20" tall, including a one-inch white border, and is printed on heavyweight, acid-free poster stock.
Now known as Terminal 2, the “Grand Central of airport terminals," a slightly pre-Jet Age building at San Francisco International Airport, was dedicated on August 27, 1954. Soon thereafter, with construction of additional capacity at the airport, the building became known as Central Terminal, and over six decades later, it still serves the flying public—heavily altered but still somewhat dignified—for those willing to notice it.
This poster, illustrated in great detail by artist Chris Bidlack, also depicts an ascending United Air Lines DC-8 Super 61 (marketed as the “Super DC-8” by United), on its way to Honolulu. Also depicted is an approaching SFO Helicopter Airlines Sikorsky-S-61, as well as the tails of three other mid-1960s carriers at SFO—Pacific Air Lines, Pacific Southwest Airlines, and Pan Am, which appear in front of the old, high and wide observation deck. (Look closely and you'll also notice the potted trees of the old outdoor patio cafe overlooking the main ramp, although its lifespan was short, and appears in very few photographs.)
Wording below the main artwork identifies the building's architects, the date of the inaugural SFO-HNL flight of United's DC-8-61 (in 1967), and the dates of operation of UAL’s Super-61s at SFO.
The print will arrive carefully packaged and ready for you to unroll and frame. (Framing instructions included.) Click on the image to see the full poster in detail. (And of course, the “JetAgeArt.com” watermark does not appear on the actual poster.)
