TWA Flight Center at JFK Tribute Poster
TWA Flight Center at JFK Tribute Poster
Poster size is 14" wide by 20" tall, including a one-inch white border, and is printed on heavyweight, acid-free poster stock.
When Eero Saarinen was commissioned in 1956 to create TWA's new terminal at Idlewild (later JFK), the airline instructed the architect to capture "the spirit of flight" in his design. The result, which opened in 1962, was what Life magazine called the "most daring of all the buildings at Idlewild Airport." Listed today as a New York City landmark, and entered in the National Register of Historic Places, the TWA Flight Center is perhaps the most symbolic architectural representation of the Jet Age still standing.
Chris Bidlack's illustrated print, set in the early 1970s, captures the moment when the Boeing 747 first entered the scene (specifically N93104, which flew TWA's inaugural 747 flight LAX to JFK), when the 707 was still an everyday sight at JFK, and when the TWA flight Center was still a bustling and shining part of Terminal City.
The print will arrive carefully packaged and ready for you to unroll and frame. (Framing instructions included.) Click on the image to see the full poster in detail. (And of course, the "JetAgeArt.com" watermark does not appear on the actual poster.)
